In Clearwater, Florida. As you can see by this map, we're right on the Gulf of Mexico. Not a bad place to be...except during hurricane season!

• Writing
  Before I went to library school, I was a professional journalist. Now, after 10 years as a professional librarian, I'm a journalist once again.
• Librarians and the Internet
  The Net can be the greatest thing that ever happened to our profession if we take advantage of the opportunities it offers.
• Computers
  I never suspected that my life would end up intimately entwined with computers, but that's exactly what happened.

  Something cool for weather weenies: If you have a Java-capable browser, you can click on the sensitive map and get the weather and sea state data being reported by automated marine stations around the world. (Bravo to David Faciane of the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, Florida.)

• I call this one "Safety Tips for the Truly Clueless."
  If you really, really need this sort of information, you should probably not be allowed out of the house unless accompanied by a sentient adult.
